You look around, see thousands of people at the Bioneers conference, and you figure the conference makes money and the organization is flush. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Unlike TED which charges about $8,000 a ticket, our prices are far more affordable than comparable events, often about half of what other conferences charge. We keep prices low because we’re fundamentally populist and activist in character, and so are you who come. It’s not a matter of filling the hall—it’s about filling the hall with the right people.
For instance, this year we had a record number of youth (ages 13-23) that amounted to 20% of all attendees, over half of whom were youth of color. Talk about growing the movement!
Here's a video that features just one of our youth speakers this year, Chloe Maxmin, a leader in the fossil fuel divestment movement. The insights she shares are invaluable for the generation just starting to engage as global citizens.
But guess what? Young people do not have money. Your direct support is what allows them to be there—plus, we ourselves stretch to the max to raise money to support them from other sources. We spend many sleepless nights concerned about whether we can make ends meet while doing the right thing.
That’s just one example. Many other conferences also have corporate sponsors—we take only the handful of carefully screened companies that meet our standards of integrity and excellence. We’ve turned down money from publicly traded companies and others we just don’t believe are in line with our standards and ethics.
Your support is essential for Bioneers to survive and thrive. By investing generously in Bioneers, you’re telling us to keep doing the right thing.
