I listen to the Bioneer Radio series via the internet on KEXP in Seattle. Sometime within the past several months I heard a show which featured a guest who was a natural food chef who got a middle school in Berkley CA interested in startig its own garden. Apparently the science and math classes used the effort as a supplement to its instruction and the food stuffs were used in the school cafeteria to supplement the menu.
I am a middle school teacher who works in an inner city school in Jacksonville FL and I think it would be a great project for our school. I have been through all the radio series CD listings and cannot find anything that even remotely looks like this topic listed.
Besides the chance to listen to the segment over again, I would like to find out the name of the lady chef who got this project rolling in order to get some pointers on how I might do the same thing for my school. Does anyone out there have any information they could forward to me on this matter?

Anyone with knowledge about mining and its side affects??
I have learned bits and pieces through bioneers and picked up from other sources about some of the "negative" that is involved with mining.
There is a large company going to open up a mine very close to my nearest community. They are planning to mine for gold and copper.
I know that there is something that is not good about mines as with clearcut logging, etc. and I would like to learn more so that I can involve myself knowledgeably. However, I do not know exactly where to find good sources of information as well as other people who have dealt with these kinds of issues.
I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions/information sources/dialogue to get me more involved with knowledge and not just thoughts. The "prosperity" mine is looking to open within the next 6-8 months and so I have to work quickly in order to get somewhere.

RE: How Can I Find Out More Information on...
What you are looking for is Radio Series V
"A Sense of Wonder: Ecological Literacy
and the Facts of Life with Capra, Barlow, Cook."
You can buy the set here, and we will have the CD and the Mp3 up shortly.
Urban Garden
I'm working on sustainable urban food production if you are interested. Our foundation is currently testing and revising a LED based kit for growing food. The kit is intended for shelf use, uses 3W for red light, 3W for blue light. Annual operating budget is under $4 for electricity, and provides 3 square feet of growing space. The kits include everything necessary to grow the food, just add water.
We are also developing another kit to grow spirulina algae, providing a fresh source for an 'expensive supplement' so that it can be used as a primary, inexpensive food source.
If either topic interests you, please let me know.
lady chef and Edible Schoolyard
That would be Alice Waters, owner of Chez Panisse. She helped start a nonprofit focussed on "rethinking school lunch." You can find more information at www.edibleschoolyard.org.
