Maya Carlson works to coordinate and facilitate the Youth Leadership Program at Bioneers. In this role she processes youth scholarships, manages program logistics and curates meaningful learning opportunities for young people who attend Bioneers.
She earned a BA in International Affairs & Anthropology from Northeastern University that focused on decolonization, globalization, and social movements. Her previous professional experience includes working in the fields of environmental education, regenerative agriculture, youth mentorship, community organizing, and social entrepreneurship. Prior to joining the team at Bioneers, Maya worked as an organizer for California Trade Justice Coalition – a cross-sector alliance of labor, environmental and human rights groups – that advocates for more equitable trade agreements.
When she is not working with Bioneers, Maya can be found in the garden, in the woods, in the streets organizing for social justice or putting on immersive art experiences with her friends. Spiders, mycelium and whales are some of her dearest teachers.
