San Francisco, CA – 06/29/2017

Bioneers, a nonprofit organization working to highlight solutions that address the world’s most pressing issues, has announced that is now accepting applications to its Youth Scholarship Program. Through its Youth Leadership initiative, the organization provides a transformative opportunity for young leaders and activists to learn, further develop leadership skills, build alliances, and strengthen connections with other young environmental, social justice and food systems leaders.

“I was always a huge environmentalist, but Bioneers definitely refocused me toward the social justice – especially racial equity and female empowerment – aspect of the environmental movement at a deeper level than I had felt before,” says Megan Phelps, 2016 Youth Scholar. “I was able to widen and sharpen my focus on my values, passions, and goals.”

The Youth Scholarship program allows youth between 13- and 23-years old with financial needs to attend the Bioneers Conference, an annual gathering of leaders and activists showcasing their visionary work. Scholars receive free tickets to access the conference full program and the opportunity to connect with the community that embodies the Bioneers network. Scholars are also engaged in a special programming that includes mentorship, workshops, and experiential activities inside the Youth Unity Tent, a dedicated, welcoming and safe space for young attendees.

The Bioneers conference will take place on October 20-22, at the Marin Center in San Rafael, California.
