Help fund the movement that’s rewriting the future—one young leader at a time.
At the annual Bioneers Conference, our multicultural Young Leaders Program creates a dynamic space for over 450 youth voices. Our dedicated Native Youth Leadership track uniquely brings together more than 100 Indigenous youth from 20 different tribes alongside hundreds of other young leaders from every background imaginable.
The Next Generation Activated
Young people across all communities are already building solutions for ecosystem protection and social justice. From urban Oakland to tribal territories, from immigrant communities to rural towns, they’re organizing their schools, protecting their watersheds, and fighting for environmental justice in their neighborhoods.
With Bioneers’ support, Native youth from the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe just became the first Indigenous youth group to pass a Rights of Nature law within their Tribal government. Bay Area youth regularly return from our conference to start initiatives, mentor peers, and pursue opportunities they once believed were unattainable.

“This program has not only inspired me to fight for the natural world and my ancestral territory, but it has also given me the chance to grow. I am a better speaker and more confident, and I feel like I have the personal strength to advocate for my Tribe and community. There is a huge movement happening to protect nature, and I am honored to be a part of it.”

Fostering Leadership
Our youth don’t just attend—they lead. They take the stage as keynote speakers. They facilitate workshops ranging from climate justice to food sovereignty. They create art, share stories, and build solidarity along with priceless long-term relationships across cultures and communities.
Many come from frontline communities besieged by extractive industries, colonization, and climate disasters. They arrive as passionate individuals. They leave as an unstoppable force with lifelong allies and mentors.
Indigenous rights activist Jade Begay (Tesuque Pueblo and Dine) participated in Bioneers Native Youth Program in 2015, attending the annual conference and Indigenous Forum. There, she found a vital space for networking, mentorship, and empowerment. Years later in 2023, on an epic journey that took her all the way to the White House, she returned to Bioneers as a keynote speaker. She shared her insights on how far Indigenous leadership has come and what can be done to strengthen and embolden the young leadership that is integral for our survival on planet Earth. Jade’s specific path is unique to her, but her larger story is an echo of the thousands of youth who have experienced the vision and power of the Bioneers community over the years.
“I was a recipient of the Bioneers Indigenous Youth Scholarship. I was fresh out of grad school and beginning my career as a campaigner and strategist. Now I’m here talking to you all. I feel really honored and grateful to Bioneers. They understand what it means to invest in Indigenous youth and Indigenous leadership and to platform us.”

The Conference Happens in Berkeley. The Impact Reaches Everywhere.
This isn’t charity. This is strategic investment in proven community leadership.
Our youth alumni have a remarkably high return rate across all backgrounds—they come back year after year because this multicultural community inspires and cultivates them to grow into their vision, power, and leadership. They’re organizing river cleanups in their neighborhoods. They’re starting food justice programs in their schools. They’re advocating for environmental policies that address both ecosystem protection and social equity. They’re building the future we want to live in.

- The Mashpee Wampanoag youth who passed Rights of Nature legislation? They learned organizing skills here.
- The Oakland youth now leading housing and environmental justice campaigns? This program gave them the tools and network.
- The rural youth implementing sustainable agriculture projects? They found their community and confidence here.
Our youth return because they find hope and support here—and they’re creating hope for all of us.
Why Multicultural Youth Leadership Matters
Environmental destruction and social injustice hit frontline communities first and hardest.
Young people from these communities—Indigenous, immigrant, and rural youth as well as youth of color—are ready to lead solutions that address both ecosystem protection and social justice together.
These young leaders understand that they can organize, advocate, and build movements that honor both environmental health and community wellbeing. They know their communities hold pieces of the solution. What they need is investment in their leadership development and mutual support.
We’re living in a time when those in power take pride in denying the interconnection between social and environmental justice. Young people are building grassroots momentum for a future where our communities and ecosystems can both thrive.
It is our responsibility to fund their success. The solutions they’re creating—and the future they deserve to inherit—depend on it.
“Combating climate change is a daunting task, and progress can feel slow. However, I have a secret weapon that keeps me inspired… This place is where I first discovered that I could become an environmental leader and spokesperson for my generation. It is my annual hope-replenishment pitstop.”
